Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Then, in 1992 she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over the years, such as budget reform, tax reform and the Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
